Review: I don’t know why I didn’t really enjoy a different book in this series (The Princess in Black Takes a Holiday), because this one is just brilliant! A small book filled with thick and glossy pages of both text and colourful illustrations, The Princess in Black and the Mysterious Playdate’ is very fun to read. The cover is shiny with a sort of shiny metallic purple colour.

Princess Magnolia has a playdate with Princes Sneezewort. When a monster attacks in the nearby park, the Princess in Black is ready to deal with it, but there’s a new mysterious masked hero in the park too. I don’t want to spoil the whole story, but it’s very funny and a completely different experience from the first book I read (the Princess in Black Takes a Holiday). I really enjoyed reading this story, the monster is funny to spot, it keeps hiding in certain pictures and it’s fun to just stare at all the images to find it. The story between the two Princesses, the way they keep their identities hidden, and the way the masked heroes deal with the monster is fun too.

The text is quite large which makes reading it easy and I love the illustrations which are fun and very colourful. I really love the pig-turned-unicorn which just keeps eating all the time and as I said before there is some fun detail in many of the pictures as you get to spot different things happening in the town as well as searching for that monster.

My experience of this book has really made me enjoy The Princess in Black, much more than I did before. I don’t know why but I just really liked reading this story and now I’m excited to check out the rest of the series.
