Review: I love this book, part of the ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt: Let’s Discover…’ range of activity books, this one has so many different things for kids to do, this time focused on flowers and trees. The book is a little smaller than A4 in size and is filled with thick matt pages of colourful images and some text. Each page or double page has different activities for kids to do and there are lots of lovely fun stickers at the back too.
All the activities this time focus around the flora that kids can see if they look in their gardens, in parks or out in the countryside. The book begins with a few safety tips on going out to view nature and then moves onto many different activities and information about different plants. There’s information on foraging, different types of flowers and how bees pollinate them, among other things. Each page has different activities to do. Some pages involve colouring and using stickers, others have fun games to play and there are plenty of more practical things, with recipes on how to make different foods or crafts like greeting cards and even a fun way to keep track of measuring the height of a growing sunflower. All the activities are fun and kids will learn somethings along the way including the different types of flowers they can see in the wild.
Many of the pages feature using the stickers that are at the back of the book. There are two double pages of stickers, one which has glossy pre-coloured stickers and the other page has stickers with a matt finished and they are deliberately black and white as they are for kids to colour in before sticking into the book or onto different objects. All these stickers are fun and there are even a couple of extra stickers including one featuring the famous bear from the book! The illustrations are all so fun and colourful and make you feel part of the family’s adventure in original book.
I’ve always loved activity books like this since I was a child and the ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt: Let’s Discover’ range is especially fun. This particular book is great as it talks about the flowers and trees that many kids can see outside their homes every day, and I especially love the activity of making a mud pie (to eat!). I’d recommend this book along with the others as it will give kids so many different things to do as well as hopefully inspire a love of nature within them.
