This is a tag I saw over on BookCraic, and thought it might be fun to do and I would love to tag anyone out there who wants to do this too.  Like all tags the idea is to get to know me better and this one is heavily book related so anyone who wants to know me as a book blogger better might enjoy reading this and doing the tag for yourself.  So, let’s go!

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?

I’m asuming I’m not driving but the car is moving?  Short answer yes.  I used to get car sick as a child and teen and although I’ve grown out of that, I can’t read more than the odd 5-minute article in a newspaper before feeling sick.  Besides I like to sit in a quiet spot to read anyway so reading books is not something I really do on any transportation.  Instead I like to day dream while looking out of the window.

2. What author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

I’m not sure if there’s any author that’s more unique than another.  Every author’s work feels unique to me.  Of course there are some authors whose writing style stands out, is sometimes more poetic or reads faster and more exciting than another, but I’m nost sure if I can pick any author specifically right now because it all depends on my mood and the book I’m reading which usually feels unique when I’m reading it 🙂

3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give three points to defend your answers.

Erm….I only know Harry Potter from the movies, although I really want to read it once I have a space in my tbr list.  But as for the Twilight Saga…I just don’t really know it at all! 😮

4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what’s in it (besides books…)?

Unless I was heading to somewhere like YALC then I really don’t have a book bag.  Like I said I don’t like reading when travelling so I’d rather just read in the comfort of my home.  If I do get a book to read while out sometimes, then I’ll keep it in my handbag which is big because I carry way too much stuff around.  It’s a Kipling style bag though so lots of pockets and one just for the book (which I’d also wrap in another carrier bag for extra protection because I’m paranoid ever since I got stuck in a rain shower😂😂)

5. Do you smell your books?

Yes!  I love the smell of new books.  I’m one of those werid people that loves to flip the pages of the book and sniff the gorgeous bookish scent…am I weird?!  I’ve always done it, ever since I was little, I used to smell new magazines too when I was a teenager but some of the print was a bit sickening.  I’m so weird I can actually tell the difference between some of the printers of the books I have just by sniffing the pages. 🤪😂

6. Books with or without little illustrations?

Both!  I love reading books without illustrations but I’m also equally fond of books with them.  Books with illustrations do sometimes add a bit to the stories, but it depends on the story.  If you have a kids book with pictures they can really add to the tale, or some little images around the chapter headings look good and maps and stuff.  But books with detailed illustrations of some characters (usually a comemorative edition of a book or something) sometimes restricts my imagination a bit if I haven’t read the story yet…although it really doesn’t matter either way for me 😉

7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

I don’t think I have come across this.  A book that catches my attention couldn’t do so without having a quality to it.  If I loved reading the book then the writing didn’t bother me.  If books annoy me with their writing from the start then I’m not enjoying reading them anyway andwill probably always see the flaws in the writing.

8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!

I really can’t think of anything funny book-wise.  I suppose I can just say that I really wasn’t into reading that much at all, in fact at times as a child I hated scheduled reading time at school! 😮  I wasn’t always a fan of reading but I did love a range of stories including Winnie the Pooh which I loved so much I created my own book of adventures of Winnie and friends, complete with illustrations 😀

9. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

I think a recent book I jut reviewed has taken this top spot now: Animal Poems: Give Me Instead of a Card  but I have lots of thin books that are like free sampler books (do they count?) which I just never get rid of even when I get the full copy of the book.

10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?

Technically I think it might be a bible from a family relative although let’s not count that 🙂 🙄 I have a lot of big books although most of my books are still stored away in boxes since I moved so I’m not sure which is the biggest, although of the very recent ones I got they go well over 500 pages!

11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

I do write. I’ve always written stories ever since I can remember.  Inventing stories, whether written down or on film has always been a passion of mine, however in the years that followed me leaving school I found it so much harder to write fiction without feeling terrible about it.  I’d over criticise myself to the point of upseting myself about my ability to write and the nothing would come out…thank you to my secondary school for making me feel so good about myself…  I have started to gain more confidence though and while I still don’t feel that I’m quite ready to share them yet, I’m definitely writing stories for myself again (even if they are sometimes silly and ridiculous!)

12. When did you get into reading?

I’ve always enjoyed reading when I’ve chosen to do it myself (i.e. not told to read by the teachers!), although I never was a big reader as a child or teen.  I still read books but was never really into them that much until the last few years.  I got into reading classics about eight years ago, although I was a bit slow to read them.  But in the last 3 to 4 years I’ve got reading mad and am surprising myself with how much I read these days!

13. What is your favourite classic book?

I haven’t read that many yet (although I have a few boxes full of them-I keep buying them in anticipation of reading them lol!).  I have to say though that I love the challenge of reading classics and my favourite will probably change as I read more.  I really enjoyed reading Crime and Punishment and The Thrity-Nine Steps and I found one I’d never herad of before which I found especially funny which was called The Diary of a Nobody.

14. In school what was your best subject?

What I did best at when it came to my GCSE results was English Literature! Yay! 😀  But when at school I would have said my best subjects were art, biology and maths!  I liked English and English Literature but found it hard to read so much when I was at school – something I find myself laughing at now considering how much more I read! 😛

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated… what would you do?

I would thank them for the book.  It’s the thought that counts and everyone who knows me that my book gifts end up on my book shelves waiting for me to read them whenever I want to.  People know I may take weeks, months or even years to get around to reading a certain book so that person would never need to know that I wasn’t a fan of the book (unless they read a review on my blog…🤔🤭).  Besides as I said before, it’s the act of giving and their thoughtfulness that counts, much more than the gift itself 🙂

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or The Hunger Games?

Are Harry Potter and The Hunger Games similar to each other?  What criteria does a series need to have?  I’m not sure what to say (Can you tell I have no clue when it comes to The Hunger Games? 😮 ).  I love lots of series but I’m not sure if any are similar to these two.

17. What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while filming?

I don’t vlog but I have done stuff to camera for years, just for myself, like a video diary and stuff (stuff = pretending I was a TV presenter and actually filming it!).  I plan to maybe do YouTube stuff in future though and I know that my greatest habit is that if something sets me off I just start laughing when I’m not supposed to.  Once I’m laughing I find it so hard to stop that that will definitely ruin any filming…lol!

18. What is your favourite word?

I’m not sure I have one!

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

I know I’m a nerd and geek as I love to read a lot and be super geeky with videogames, gadgets and all the stuff I like to collect.  But I’m not sure what dork and dweeb actually are.  They never sounded positive to me.

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Fairies I’d prefer to encounter in real life, but vampires in books and film (because, my first experience = Buffy!)

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

Shapeshifting is so cool and also so creepy because they could literally look like anyone (or anything! 😮 😱 )

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Werewolves are more fun than spirits to play in The Sims but I think spirits are more interesting when it comes to real life and also in stories!

23. Zombies or vampires? Why?

Ugh, zombies are just so mindless and boring.  There’s literally no brain there so unless I’m playing Plants vs Zombies then please give me the intelligent and creepy vampire any day! 😉

24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

I think forbidden love is so much more interesting to read in stories.  There’s something about a love triangle that I find more annoying than exciting (or sometimes I feel sorry for someone), but forbidden love can feel so dramatic and exciting!

25. Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

I like the odd romance but I’m not keen on romance stories so I’d definitely say I like action-packed stories and books with a few love scenes here and there.  I like a bit of romance withing an action story but I’m definitely reading for the main adventure and not just for the releationship.

So that’s it, my answers and I tag anyone who wants to have fun giving their own answers to go and do it!  Just don’t forget to add a link to this post in your own blog post so that I can see you answers and share your post too 😀
