Today I’d like to share with you a short poem that seems to be part of a growing collection that I have been writing over the years which feature a similar theme about animals and in particular a certain thing that some animals, unfortunately, encounter. It’s a subject that I’m passionate about so I hope you enjoy the poem. It’s a slightly edited old poem which if anyone was around the internet some years ago you may remember. Please let me know what you think of the subject of the poem too 🙂
The Fence

I stand alone, this side of the fence,
I try so hard to be strong.
But I can’t pretend that you aren’t there,
What you did was wrong.
You didn’t care about how I felt,
You ignore my every cry.
I can’t pretend that you aren’t there,
To do so I’d have to die.
I wish this wall was solid so,
You wouldn’t see me suffer.
But you look through, like I’m not here,
Now you love another.

What do you think of this poem? How do you feel about animal welfare and in particular pets who are abandoned in favour of newer younger ones? Let me know what you think in the comments below 🙂
I love the poem, but hate the situation.
There are valid reasons to give up a pet. I’ve dealt with a few myself. But because you got another pet isn’t one of them. Unfortunately, two situations spring to mind immediately that I was personally witness to where that very thing was done. It still angers and saddens me, even though it’s been more than a decade since they happened.
I still feel guilty for the times circumstances beyond my control meant I was forced to give up an animal, and don’t understand how people can throw away pets so easily when they have a choice.

Thank you. I hope my post didn’t upset you too much. I was referring completely to the people who choose to give up or throw away an animal just because they want something fun or new. Some people give up an animal just because it grew up and they didn’t want a big dog or didn’t want one that wasn’t trained enough, silly reasons that are cruel.
I do hate it though that some people do sometimes have to give up a pet. It’s never an easy thing to do, but there are some wonderful places to give that animal to. Many shelters are lovely and understanding of the situation. It’s very sad when it happens and it makes me sadder when I hear that so many people have to give up pets just because they move into flats or private rented houses/flats where the landlord just doesn’t want pets, even if those pets are super clean.
You have a big heart, I can’t imagine what it must have been like to give away your pet, but I do know that you have an amazing heart and you wouldn’t have given that animal up if you’d had the choice. *Big hug to you ❤ ❤ 🙂

I love my pet indoor cats and little dog Molly. I hate seeing poor pets mistreated or left out in the cold. Thanks for caring about animals I wish everyone did.

I’m definitely an animal lover 🙂 and things like this really affect me emotionally. It’s so heartbreaking when that happens. 😦 I can’t believe some people can be so cruel as to leave animals outside or throw them away.
You are amazing and have a big heart ❤ I had an indoor tuxedo cat, she passed away quite a while ago, but now I'm thinking of getting a new cat or pair of cats 🙂 I love the name Molly 🙂 What breed's your do, if you don't mind me asking?
