Review: This is such a brilliant book for anyone trying to get their kids to use the potty. ‘Skip to the Loo! A Potty Book’ is a board book about A5 in size and filled with glossy hard pages which have lots of colourful illustrations on them. The book has curved edges that aren’t sharp making it safe to hold for very young kids. As the name suggests the book is all about teaching kids to use the potty especially encouraging ones that don’t want to. Bunny needs to use his potty but what can he do…Skip to the Loo!

The tale is a simple one and is filled with rhyming on each double page. As bunny heads off skipping to the loo he’s joined by other animals who also need to use the potty. They all join in and skip to the loo together. There are lots of different animals needing their potties including mice, cats, an elephant, piglets and even a dodo and a dinosaur! All of the animals are introduced on the various pages along with a fun rhyme for each one and how they all skip to the loo together.

I love the ending of this book as I believe it can really engage kids especially those that find potty training hard and are reluctant to use a potty. Spoiler alert here but, at the end, all the animals start wondering who is missing from their Potty Party. The next page reveals a mirror and asks kids ‘Is it you?’. The last page has more encouraging words to get the child involved in using the potty, with the usual fun rhyme and a lovely picture of a potty with a heart on it. It’s a brilliant ending and I think it really gets kids involved and might help get those really reluctant children to want to use their potty.

The illustrations are lovely. Each page is filled with lots of different creatures all skipping to the loo and there’s lots of see. I love how each page has fun little extras such as small insects in places or some of the characters carrying toilet paper. The pictures are all so clearly illustrated. There’s something I love about the way all the animals look and the way they look so encouraging and happy about the process of using the loo. The words are also very large to read so easy for children to follow along.

I’ve never seen a potty book before this one but I can understand how difficult it can be to teach some kid to use the potty and I think this book is especially made for them, especially with the encouraging ending. Being such a fun rhyming book too I can see kids finding this easy to follow and it can be read again and again to encourage youngsters to start using the potty, while making it into a fun and happy process as they read along with the rhymes. It’s a great book and although it’s the first potty book I’ve ever read, I’d definitely recommend this.
