Today I’m doing the fun Naughty or Nice Book Tag which aims to show whether you’ll end up on Santa’s naughty list or the nice list depending on how you answer the questions below. I was tagged by the lovely Ellie from READ TO RAMBLE, please do check out her blog she has a lot of really great content. 🙂 The book tag originally comes from Jenniely (although the link is to her 2019 tag 😛 ).
If you’d like to do this tag then please go ahead, it’ll be fun to find out which of us are on the nice list and which on the naughty. 😉 If you do this tag on your blog then don’t forget to let me know where you answers are so I can check them out and share, or just comment below with what your answers to these questions would be. 🙂
Now the idea of this tag is that there are 20 questions , for each thing you say yes to, is counted as a point, the more points you have the more likely you will go on the naughty list! 😮 If you score more than half you’re on the naughty list, so let’s see how I do! 😀
1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it – 1 point
Erm…yes! Oh dear, yes! I have quite a few books I’ve received for review and have not reviewed them yet, with some a few are months old. 😦 I sort of got behind on my reading through both some recent health problems and also some recent family problems with a couple members of my family getting ill and needing help. This has made my reading fall waaay behind and although I always seem to have a few books needing reviewing, the list has grown quite big! 😮 That and just received a bumper huge haul of books that I’d been offered so long ago (and thanks to lockdown wasn’t able to get until now) I’d forgotten that I was going to get them, which has sort of added to that huge pile of ARCs that aren’t reviewed list. 😮 😬
2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley
Wow, I have exactly 60% on NetGalley! I don’t really like reading digital books, except picture books, and am trying to read as few as possible, but I’ve been offered a few books which I just couldn’t say no to and considering I haven’t really tested my eyesight on a new e-reading device for a while, I thought I’d give it a go after so long without reading anything digital. Although my 60% rating might go down if I get one more book I’m pretty proud of the fact that I don’t have less than 60% feedback rating. 😀
3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did).
I’ve never rated a book on Goodreads before it goes up on my blog so no. I always place book reviews on my blog first and then in other places like Amazon and Goodreads. I’m actually not very good on Goodreads, I often forget to go there and then when I remember I put reviews up in bulk every few weeks…is that bad? 😮
4. Folded down the page of a book
Never! Never done it, never will!!!!
5. Accidentally spilled on a book
I have in the past, I’ve gotten some of my own blood on a book before. 😮 Okay I know that sounds a bit gross but my hands were very dry at the time and I didn’t even realise that I had a small bleed on one dry finger and then got a blob in a book! But this year I have not done this and seeing as this tag is about the last twelve months (at least I think it is) then I’m going to say no as that blood thing happend a few years ago now. I otherwise don’t put liquids near my book so I don’t spill on it at all. 🙂
6. DNF a book this year – 1 point
Yes, unfortunately I tried reading a book for my book challenge #Febookary this year, but then during the month I realised I had commitements to get other reviews and important things done offline that I actually never finished reading the book I had intended to. Doubly embarassing as it was my own book challenge and it was the first year of the challenge. I’m definitely going to do it differently next year though. Iwill finish that book and I’m proud to say that, in general, I rarely have a Did Not Finish book in my life these days as I pick the books I really like the sound of and I’m also someone who perseveres with reading a book to the end, even if it sounds meh, just to see if the ending redeems it, lol
7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it
No. What’s the point in buying a book because it’s pretty? Okay I know why people might buy a pretty book but what I mean is that buying it just for the sake of it’s look just doesn’t make sense to me. I would always want to read it and I’d only buy it if I was interested in the story as well. 🙂
8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework) – 1 point
Yes. I have read when I should have been doing a lot of things. I have even read a book to the point of having a diabetic hypo because I was so engrossed in the story and had forgotten that I had to eat.🤦♀️
9. Skim read a book
No. I sometimes skim read non-fiction books just to see what subjects there are, but I will still read the whole book and at my own pace. I’m not a fast reader at all, in fact quite slow compared to a lot of people which is why I can’t read as many books as others in a year, but I will never ever skim read a book because I feel that it’s a bit insulting to the author. The author meant to put all the words into the book and wanted us to feel some emotions while reading, and I’m not sure you can get the whole emotional story experience without reading the book properly and not skim reading it. 😀
10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal – 1 point (maybe)
I’ll probably have to say yes to this one although I still don’t know if I’ll make it or not, it’s not the end of the year yet! I currently have 76 out of 105 books read so it’s likely that I’ll fail. 😦 I tried to up my goal by 5 more books this year as I managed to reach 100 last year, but like I said, this maybe should be more of a ‘Maybe’ answer as I just do’t know yet and haven’t missed a Goodreads goal for a long time.
11. Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library
Not this year, and not really since I was at school, but yes in general. When I was at school as a teenager I forgot to return a book of stories by Oscar Wilde when we were reading it in English class, it was a very old edition too! Ooops! 😮
12. Broke a book buying ban
I…erm, haven’t been on a book buying ban…like ever! 😮 Actually I don’t really need to go on a buying ban as I do have a lot of self control (she types having eaten too much cake earlier!😋🤪). So the answer is no. I’ve been so lucky and actually got so many books from publisher’s for reviewing this year, that I don’t need to add any more books to my house this year, lol. 😂 But the main reason why I have such good self control is that I spent some of my early life growing up in a poorer household. And although I have the means to purchase what I want now, those frugal years when you know you can’t just buy something on a whim when you want because bills have to be paid and you have to save up for it and wait, really does make you appreciate what you have and as a result I am able to easily wait for something, and pace myself when it comes to buying new books, or new anything really! 😀
13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about
I did this once a few years back but no to this year and in general. I always review books when I’ve just finished reading them. I feel like I can’t start reading another book until the previous one is reviewed so I’ve gotten into a habit of quickly writing up a rough review before starting a new book. Once my rough thoughts are down in a sort of review, I’m able to edit it later, usually by the next day, and then start reading something new. 🙂
14. Wrote in a book you were reading
No. I never do this and the only time I did it was at school when for our GCSEs the English teacher told us to write in the books we were given! The books we got were heavily annotated already (in pencil) but I’ve never ever wanted to write in a book and felt bad for doing it even at school. Of course the only exception would be if it’s a book you’re meant to write in like a colouring or activity book.
15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads – 1 point
Yes. As I said things on Goodreads go up late and I think I’ve forgotten to put up a few books that I’ve reviewed elsewhere before, same with my menus/index on my blog, I have so many reviews that I need to put on my blog’s book index but I just haven’t had the time (…since 3 months ago!). 😮
16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend
No. I never really borrow books anymore, except from my mum who is as careful about keeping books in good condition as I am. I don’t really borrow books and when I do I always return them in the condition they came in. 😀
17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book – 1 point
Yes. Because I don’t borrow nobody asks me for my books either, in fact people who know me know I’m a bit overly obsessed with how my books are kept so they don’t bother to ask which is fine by me! 😀
18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book
No! I don’t like breaking the spine of any book except my own colouring books which need it to lie flat in order to be coloured in.
19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged
Protect the jacket or the book? lol 😂😅 I’ve read books with the jacket on. Although I’ve managed to ever so slightly squash the very edge of the jacket (like a millimetre or two) when reading the book, I always leave them on as Ijust feel weird about making the book naked. 🤣
20. Sat on a book accidentally
Not for a long time and certainly not this year although in general I probably have at some oint. But to be fair I only ever sat on a book that was already in bad condition, like a library book, and never my own!
Sooo, at the end of that it seems my score is 6/20. Wow! I didn’t know what to expect when I started writing up my answers and I didn’t expect my number to be so low. But of course this means I made it on Santa’s Nice List.🎅 🙂 Well I always have been on the nice list (as far back as I can remember 😉 ) and I don’t think I could cope getting coal for Christmas! 😮 This has been a fun tag, I really enjoyed it and I tag everyone out there, all of you who wants to do this, let’s see who makes it to the naughty or nice list. 😀
Did you enjoy this book tag? What do you think of my answers? What would your answers be? Let me know in the comments below 🙂
