Today I’m so happy to share with you a new blog award I received before Christmas! Yes, I know I’m rediculously late with this one but I’ve been so behind in everything ever since then that I’m only now starting to catch up! I was nominated by the very lovely Danni from _ForBooksSake, thank you so much Danni and please go check out her blog as she has a lot of amazing posts. 🙂 I’ve never heard of the Outstanding Blogger Award before I got nominated for this, and I feel very lucky to have been nominated for this one as it’s such a nice thing to get. 🙂 Now as with all blog awards there are some rules and here they are:
- Have the link to the creator’s original award post
- Answer the questions provided
- Create 7 unique questions
- Nominate 10 other bloggers. Neither the award’s creator nor the blogger that nominated you can be nominated
- At the end of 2020, every blog that ping-backs the creator’s original post will be entered to win the 2020 Outstanding Blogger Award
Well, the last rule doesn’t apply now that it’s 2021, lol. But the rest of the rules I’m going to follow and I hope you enjoy reading up my answers to Danni’s questions. 🙂
Questions asked to me:
1. Do you make TBR’s or are you a mood reader?
A bit of both. I’m definitely a mood reader when it comes to books. I just can’t pick up and read a book I’m not really in the mood for. But I also take part in occassional blog tours which means I have to keep a TBR (to-be-read) list handy especially with specific dates for those tours that I need to get reviews out on. I sometimes make myself read a book for a tour that’s coming up reagardless of whether I wanted to read another book more, but I usually end up wanting to read it anyway as do a little trick where I keep that book visible on a table somewhere I constantly go past and just seeing the book makes me want to read it, lol. I know that sounds weird probably, but I can usually make myself want to read a book just by seeing it all the time (I’m the same with videogames and their boxes with all the gorgeous box art, just makes me want to play, lol!). As for books that don’t require a tour, I’m definitely a mood reader and those books often get read out of the order they came in or are published in (although don’t tell the publishers that!🤭🤫)
2. What is your favourite work of art?
I like a lot of art but I’m definitely a fan of surreal art like Dali’s. Although I’ve been drawing, sculpting and painting all my life I really got interested in other artist’s work in Year 7 at school (about the age of 12) when we had to try to copy a famous artist’s work in pencils or paastels. I had a book with some of Dali’s most well known paintings and I still love to look at it today, but my favourite image that captured me the first time I saw it was that famous one called The Persistene of Memory. Since then I have just enjoyed surreal art in general. I think seeing that work by Dali early on helped me in my own creative art journey (I even once painted everything I hated about diabetes into a canvas, making things like syringes look like other objects, in a surreal way, the same way Dali makes swans look like Elephants (as well as other things) in his paintings, like you can see here: Swans Reflecting Elephants. In fact I just love any art by any artist that makes you look at it for a long time and think and see new things. That’s why I also love art which has lots of detail to look at rather than something seemingly more simple. I love how it draws the attention and just keeps you seeing more and more and thinking the meaning behind it the more you look.
3. Apart from reading, what other hobbies do you have?
I love playing videogames as well as crafting and general art, especially drawing and doodling!
4. Which books has been your favourite of 2020 so far?
Wow, this question is late but seeing as I never did a post of the best books of 2020, maybe this is a good place to put my favourites down. I really loved reading several books, there were a lot of favourites but the few that really struck me were The Inheritance Games, The Cousins, Sequin and Stitch and A Time for Swords. I also enjoyed and consider The Hand, The Eye & The Heart and The Dark Days Deceit to be favourites that I read in 2020 although they were published before 2020.
5. What is your favourite thing about being a blogger?
The chance to share my thoughts and love of things like books while finding people who feel the same way too! The community is what really is the best thing, it’s one thing to share your thoughts in a post that just sits there in the blank space of the online web, but quite a different thing to know that someone is out there, even if it’s just one person, and they might find what I write useful or interesting and because of a review for example they might find a new-to-them book that they’ll love. Or there could be someone out there who could be going through the same problems as I have been through and might feel some support or just understanding and not feeling lovely from knowing there’s someone else who’s facing the same challenges. It makes blogging feel like it’s so worthwhile! 🙂
6. What are your favourite and least favourite genres?
My favourite genres are definitely science fiction, fantasy and historical fiction! I clearly love to read about a world that is not set in our world of now, lol! I don’t have a least favourite genre really. I’ll often read and enjoy anything, for example I might have said that I’m not such a fan of contemporary, but then I’ll read a contemporary book that blew my mind! I’ll say the only genre I really don’t like reading is erotica or any book that gets way too steamy in that way, but that’s just me as I prefer sweeter and more vanilla romances! lol😅
7. It’s been a weird year for all of us, so what has been your highlight of 2020?
It has been a weird year, or year and a half now. I think there has been a lot of difficulty and pain, espeically this following year (2021) for me. But my highlight for 2020 was definitely seeing my grandmother early on in the year at a family gathering, before all the madness happened. It was the last time I saw her in person, though I didn’t know it would be that at the time, and now that she’s passed away it’s a memory that I’ll hold very dear. She was so happy on that day, laughing, smiling and she wasy such a strong person really. She went through so much when she went back home, it wasn’t fair the way she passed away and I just wish she could still be around today. 😥
Sorry to end on a sad note, but the gathering is definitely a memory I’ll treasure. That and the fact that I found some new and true friends during this weird time too.
