Review: This is such a funny story and the perfect sequel to the first book! After Grace and Mr Harris helped to get rid of a very troublesome monster, Mr Harris is now part of the secret service, working to help get rid of the monsters who appear in the world. When a particularly tricky monster who likes to bite its victims appears, it’s up to Mr Harris, Grace and her family to stop him. But this new monster is more dangerous than others, and with Mr Harris not quite following the rules, can Grace and the others stop the menacing biting monster before it’s too late?

I really enjoyed this second instalment of the Monster Doughnuts series. When the first book came out I was so entertained, I just loved the character of Mr Harris the Cyclops and how funny he ends up being. But this time the story is even funnier with Mr Harris now working alongside Grace as a monster hunter. I love his character from the start and how he keeps eating anything or anyone that gets in his way. The story mentions some new monsters this time and I love both the gelato guzzler and the new enemy which has such a funny name!
The story is so fun and interesting and is so compelling to read that I finished the book in one sitting, I just couldn’t put it down, wanting to know what happened with Mr Harris and the wider problem of the main enemy whose bites are more dangerous than first thought. The story has a great ending, and I just love what happens with Mr Harris and also that troll. There is a new character called Kenny who I just love so much and I hope to see more of him in a future book too. I like how the story concludes but leaves us wanting to know what will happen in the next book, especially as it’s related to one of the main characters and I can’t wait to find out what happens.

The book has a sample of the first chapter of the next book in the series which I really can’t wait to read! There is a monster glossary at the back of the book which I also love as there’s basically a monster for everything that ever goes wrong in your life, lLike poo pushers and snack snafflers! I also found myself enjoying the bios of both author and illustrator, given the way they are written. The book has some great illustrations throughout and the illustrations really do make this book so much more enjoyable to read. There are illustrations dotted throughout the chapters, sometimes taking up a whole page and sometimes not. The pictures are all in black, white and grey, but look so funny. I really loved the images of the different monsters and the expressions of all the characters. There are also some other illustrations like small doughnuts or footprints around the text helping to make the whole book look more appealing to read.

Overall this is such a brilliant sequel to the first book which was already funny, but with this sequel the story is just so much better and I love how we find out more about Mr Harris. The book can be read alone, but it is so much more funny if read after the first book as you’ll understand the references to certain characters and some side stories too. This really is such a brilliant read, so compelling and so funny, and I can’t wait for the next book in a series which I really recommend! J
