Today is Holocaust Memorial Day, a day where we remember a terrible time in our history.  I wrote a little about this day, how it is connected to my family and a short poem, two years ago and you can see that post by clicking here.  Today I want to share with you a poem that came to me when thinking of this horrible time in our history and the millions of people who were affected.  It’s the first poem I have written in a long time so I hope you like it.

The Holocaust is a truly bleak time in our history, and we must never let something like that happen again.  The sad fact is that humans are capable of hurting other humans and in the most terrible ways.  This poem I hope will help you to reflect on this day and will hopefully also help you to remember to always be on the lookout to stop such things happening so that the disturbing things that happened to people in the past, never happen again. ❤

Today We Remember

©The Strawberry Post

Today we remember,
A time so dark and cold,
A part of our bleak history,
A time that’s not so old.

A time that’s so disturbing,
When people gave their trust,
To those who sought control,
And power that they’d lust.

A time of fear for many,
For strangers, friends and kin,
Of terrible atrocities,
Acts of true great sin.

Today we must remember,
To never let forget,
Those who didn’t return,
A life they’d never get.

Today we remember,
A time so dark and cold,
A part of our bleak history,
That always should be told.

A time that’s so disturbing,
It must never be repeat,
And to always remember,
To lovingly others treat.
