Review: Aw, this is such a brilliant and fun story and probably my favourite in the Albert the Tortoise series so far! In the land of the dinosaurs there is one that is larger and roars louder than all the others. Albert the tortoise is larger than all the other dinosaurs and when a volcano threatens to destroy their home, Albert thinks of the perfect solution to save his friends. But soon Albert is woken from his dream, to find himself in the garden surrounded by his real life friends, the insects from the garden. They also have a problem, but can Albert help them too? The paperback is a little larger, wider, than A4 in size and is filled with thick matt pages of illustrations and some text.
I have enjoyed every picture book from the Albert the Tortoise series, but so far this is definitely my favourite! Albert is enjoying a happy dream, being the largest and loudest dinosaur of them all and he’s enjoying it so much that when he wakes up he keeps thinking about being as big as he was. I like what happens and how Albert’s friends face a problem which Albert has to solve. I won’t say what happens but it’s so brilliant and the solution echoes the one in his dream.
The illustrations are amazing. I’m always in awe of how everything looks in these picture books. Albert and his garden friends all look an interesting mix of realistic and not at the same time. I love how all of the creatures look though, including the familiar recurring characters in the series like the daddy long legs with boots on and the ant with the woolly hat, and I also love how the dinosaurs look too. The dinosaurs in Albert’s dream look so colourful and interesting, and the background to the dream is so colourful and vivid too. I have always loved dinosaurs which is one reason I enjoyed this book so much, just seeing all these creatures, but it’s not just the dinosaurs and the way they look but the whole story too, especially the ending.
The ending is very good, quite heart-warming with what Albert does and how his friends react. I love the last page where Albert tries to be the big dinosaur again with something he does, it’s just the perfect ending and story and now my favourite of this on-going series! I would recommend this book to anyone, it’s not only a fun story, but this particular one is so visually appealing with so much detail and very colourful pages at the start too, and it’s especially fun to look at for anyone who’s obsessed with dinosaurs, like I was as a child! 🙂
