Review:  Aw, this is another lovely adventure in the Ebb and Flo series!  One day while visiting Granny, Flo is told all about a legendary sea monster that she should look out for it when she travels home.  While Flo is talking with Granny, Ebb plays with her ball until it is time for them to go home.  Ebb soon loses her ball though which takes some time to retrieve.  Starting out a little late, on the way home the tide starts going out and soon Mum, Flo and Ebb are stuck, marooned away from their home until the morning.  They go ashore to build a camp for the night, but when it gets dark Flo and Ebb see something, could it be the sea monster that Granny was talking about?

This book is wider than A4 in size and is filled with thick matt pages of illustrations and text.  I really love this second instalment in the Ebb and Flo series.  The first book saw the young girl Flo and her dog Ebb meet a new friend, and I love how this friend appears throughout this story too, both in the illustrations and with something that happens later on.  Ebb is constantly enjoying playing with her ball but she keeps accidently nudging it too far from reach and losing it, and I love how this repetition of Ebb making the same mistake with the ball keeps happening.  The story ends well with a brilliant dramatic build up to something that turns out to be so good and funny.  It’s a satisfying end, and I love those last illustrations, which just had me laughing so much.

The illustrations are all so lovely.  I do like how the expressions on Ebb and the other characters faces are so well seen.  The pictures are quite simple but show well what is happening and I am just in love with the way Ebb and Bird look!  I’m definitely a fan of the Ebb and Flo series now and can’t wait to read more books.  The illustrations are all so engaging and lovely to look at and the story is just so brilliant with a great and fun little twist at the end!  The repetition of Ebb losing her ball is good and this whole book is a fun read which I’m sure many children, and adults, will love. 🙂
